The Weather – What to Expect
One of the main reasons to choose The Algarve is the weather.
The region is renowned for its quality of light and its no co-incidence that for many years it has been the preferred location for many photography trips both Professional and Amateur. It is also widely acknowledged as one of the prime Golf locations in Europe.
Lets not kid ourselves, winter is winter wherever you go on mainland Europe, it gets dark earlier and the nights are cold. However, The Algarve is renowned for its mild winter climate and it is consistently the warmest and sunniest region in mainland Europe, averaging 5 hours of sunshine per day in winter!
And – Winter and Spring is quiet and very cheap in comparison to Summer and Autumn.
In the winter shooting outdoor fashion is comfortable most dry days, occasionally in winter (particularly November, February and March) it is warm enough for pool/beach shooting. Spring starts in March most years and temperatures rise and its possible to be outdoors in comfort most days. By April, beach and pool shooting is comfortable most days. Do bare in mind that December and January are the wettest months and could be compared to late September/October in the UK... although not quite as wet and dull!
Winter is a great time for golf in the Algarve with mainly agreeable temperatures and less busy courses. Spring and Autumn are perfect for Golf, but this is reflected by the fact courses are at their busiest and green fees are at their highest.
